SATS, 11+, GCSE & A Level English Tuition from an Experienced Teacher and Current AQA Examiner. Hello, and welcome, I’m Sonia!

I am a qualified English teacher with a BA in English literature from Brunel University and a PGCE from Middlesex University. I have taught for 30 years in a mainstream school and alongside my teaching career, I have accumulated more than 25 years of successful tutoring experience, supporting students from KS3 to A Level. My expertise includes SATS Preparation, 11+ entrance exams, GCSE English Language and Literature. I am particularly skilled at identifying gaps in understanding, building confidence and helping students achieve their academic goals. I currently serve as an Associate Examiner for AQA and am actively involved in marking GCSE Language examinations. This role gives me valuable insight into current examination standards, assessment criteria and examiner expectations, enabling me to provide students with highly relevant and effective examination preparation. I have extensive experience teaching online and have successfully worked with students both within the UK and internationally, including learners in Singapore and Dubai. I am proficient in Google Classroom, Zoom and Microsoft Teams and understand how to create engaging, interactive lessons that maintain motivation and promote progress in a virtual learning environment. My teaching philosophy centres on high expectations, positive relationships and personalised learning. I believe every student can succeed when given the right support, guidance and encouragement. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to receive numerous positive testimonials from students and parents, reflecting my commitment to helping learners develop both academic skills and self-confidence. I have measurable results from tutoring, for example, students have improved from grade 4 to 7/8 at GCSE, several of my students also routinely access the coveted grade 9.
