Advert description
If you find yourself bored in class - or struggling to keep up - it's usually because you've not been getting the right support, but we will work as a team to figure out how to help you flourish.
About Me
I am a writer, accredited journalist and communications expert with over fifteen years’ experience. I have published articles in outlets like the Guardian, the Independent, the i Newspaper and Al Jazeera and am currently writing my first book, which enables me to be available on a flexible basis for online tutoring.
Over the course of my career I have also worked as a one-to-one writing, public speaking and storytelling coach as well as a participatory educator commissioned by organisations like INQUEST, Farrer & Co and Friends of the Earth to deliver educational workshops on a range of topics including leadership development.
As a communications advocacy expert, one of my strengths is breaking down what seem like complex subjects into relatable and understandable chunks and another is supporting people to see and realise their full potential. Many of the individuals I have worked with in the past who started off saying to me “I can’t write,” or “why would anyone want to hear what I have to say?” have gone on to appear on national television, write for national newspapers and even speak in parliament on behalf of their communities or even win changes to UK law.
Plato said that the storytellers rule the world and while that has unfortunately not quite been my experience - we can certainly help shape it!
- My Qualifications
I hold two first class degrees from the University of London. My undergraduate degree was in Politics & International Development from the SOAS (the School of Oriental & African Studies,) where I graduated in the top 5% of my class. Years later I returned to Birkbeck College as a mature student on a scholarship to study for my MA in Creative Writing.
How I Tutor
My sessions are designed to be fun, supportive and student-centred. This is essential because different people learn in different ways and we are all at our best in a learning environment where we feel understood and safe to ask questions and make mistakes. Sessions will be participatory and structured in a way that works for you. My fifteen years’ experience working in youth, adult and public education in the charity sector and also as a participatory educator have taught me that students work best when you have a say in how you work towards the long-term goals th
