Advert description
I have been teaching music privately and at schools around Cape Town for the past 4 years. The schools I have taught at include public schools, private schools and music centers, and the age groups I have taught span between ages 6-18 for children and 19-60 for adults. The specific schools I have taught at include Frank Pietersen Music Centre in Paarl, Hugo Lambrechts music Centre in Parow, Rhenish primary school in Stellenbosch and Jan Van Riebeeck primary school in Cape Town, and private lessons at Stellenbosch University Conservatorium. This job would thus be the perfect fit for me as I have worked with children of all ages and from various backgrounds. My students also frequently take part and excel in external examinations, specifically the syllabus of Trinity College of Music (London). Recent examples are my two primary school students Abigail who scored 81% for her Trinity School of Music online guitar exam (grade 3) and her sister Emilie who scored 89% for her Grade 1 online exam. I am therefore also able to equip students with examination preparation and performance anxiety.
I am also a recent master’s graduate (2024) in classical guitar performance. Teaching part-time and studying full-time over the past few years has helped me develop great organizational skills, since I had to manage my time wisely to
meet master’s project deadlines, whilst meeting student’s exam deadlines. This is not to mention balancing concerts and performances with my studying and teaching responsibilities. As both a classical and electric/contemporary guitarist, I have performed in festivals and concerts all over Western Cape. Additionally, I also have performance experience abroad, which includes solo and ensemble performances at guitar festivals in Europe and America. I am formally trained in both classical music and jazz and have a working knowledge of rock and other contemporary styles. It is essential to be fluent in a variety of musical styles these days as the music industry has an ever-changing and dynamic landscape. I believe this performance and industry experience sets me apart and is what enables me to equip students for the music industry someday, as an active performer and well-rounded musician.
