To me, teaching well is teaching strong habits of mind. I try to connect with my students’ natural intuitions; we each have unique ways of looking at the world. I then try to use those natural intuitions to unlock the workings of the subject at hand. Most subjects can be unlocked with just a few helpful mental models. It is getting to those models which is the hard part, and the path there is different for all of us. I try to find that path with each of my students, and then go through it with them.
