I have extensive experience preparing students for the 11+ exam and SATs, focusing on building strong foundations in core mathematics while identifying and addressing individual weaknesses through careful assessment. I tailor lessons to target these areas, providing extra practice, personalised strategies, and progression from easier to harder topics. My teaching style is clear, engaging, and interactive, using problem-solving exercises, visual techniques, and colour coding to help children easily understand concepts. I emphasise repeated practice to reinforce methods and ensure long-term retention. Lessons focus on building confidence, strengthening numeracy, applying exam-style practice, and equipping students with skills valuable for 11+ success and future learning. Usually, each lesson begins with a short quiz to review previous material, ensuring knowledge retention. I start by teaching and assessing basic skills, such as column addition and multiplication, before progressing to the main topic, so that foundational abilities are secure. Lessons focus on 1–2 topics depending on the student’s absorption rate. Once the topic is fully covered, I provide a personalised test composed of SAT and 11+ past questions alongside custom exercises tailored to the student’s needs. Any areas of difficulty are repeatedly targeted until the child is confident. Lessons are engaging, using slideshows, videos, and real-world examples to help students visualise concepts and maintain motivation. I understand the importance of encouragement for struggling or less confident children, and I ensure students feel comfortable asking questions, and celebrate their progress along the way to build both confidence and self-esteem as they tackle challenges.
