Advert description
I’m currently a Chair’s Fellow on the Fiction programme at Columbia University in New York City. This follows degrees in Creative Writing from the University of Oxford (Research Support Grant awardee), and English Literature from the University of Cambridge, where I won a prestigious playwriting prize sponsored by the Royal Shakespeare Company.
I am a friendly, approachable tutor with over 500 hours of teaching experience. I have been praised by parents of former students for my ‘diligence’, ‘understanding’ and ‘creative approach’ to teaching. At Oxford Tutors, my students have gone on to win interviews at Oxbridge, places at their first-choice secondary school, and achieve grade 9 in their English Literature and Language GCSEs, subjects I specialise in across exam-boards.
I have found that a holistic approach to tutoring works best to solidify strengths as well as to consolidate any weaknesses a student might have. A firm knowledge of the syllabus and understanding of the demands of the exam are vital to grade success and are at the heart of my tutoring strategy. There are many reasons why a student may struggle with a subject but only two to academic success: confidence and a real enthusiasm for what is being taught.
English is not a science. It uniquely allows for rich and imaginative thinking and success at this subject arises when a student is given the skills to be their most creative. I’d be thrilled to bring my enthusiasm and experience to helping you reach your full potential in English!
