I am a native English speaker who is currently assisting high school students to improve their English communication skills

Hi! My name is Angelica Burlaza. I am 24 years old and have a degree in AB Communication with a Magna Cum Laude distinction. I am currently in Spain to help high school students learn as well as improve their English communication skills. I have been assisting these students since September 2023, and besides helping them, I also learn from them. This opportunity helped me figure out the things that keep them engaged and entertained while introducing new vocabulary and appropriate grammar structure. I learned that teaching is better when you really listen to the students and find out where they are struggling with the English language.

I keep my students engaged by having games, such as hidden objects, guessing the right verb, and describing photos. I make Canva presentations to accompany my lessons, too. For example, these past few months, I presented many topics, such as my culture, sports, traveling, music, and many seasonal events, among others. After each presentation, I give my students time to share their own experiences in English and if they have any questions or clarifications. What's important is that they are also given the chance to speak so that I can gauge their English skills and be on the same level as them. This way, they know that I am here to guide them, not judge them.
