My lessons are aimed at helping adults for whom English is not their native language to improve their understanding of English.

I work online and use my personal expertise to help the pupil gain a better understanding of written and spoken English. I would begin by asking the pupil to read out loud from a English newspaper article of their own choosing and then go through it with them for meaning and pronunciation. I would use this to introduce the correct sound for every vowel and consonent. Then which words to stress or not stress.
