Advert description
I am a first year Master’s student in singing at a music conservatoire and have a TEFL certification. I have experience of teaching English as a foreign language for a company based in Italy called EDUCO. I spent a summer teaching English to Italian students in two different summer camps across Italy. We taught them English through song, play and theatre and it was a very fulfilling experience. I planned out my lessons using a guide from EDUCO, to make sure that the activities each day were varied and not too repetitive. I also made sure to have backup activities planned, in case the children became bored. I used a lot of flash cards and colour to present information clearly to the children and remained as active and energetic as I possibly could. I made sure that all the children were included and could have time out if needed. As this was a summer school and not school teaching, I didn’t need to keep a track of their progress or suchlike, but I made sure that all the activities I had planned were as dynamic and fun as possible.
Last year I worked as a music and performing arts administrator in a secondary school, working alongside the head of music. As well as administration tasks that I undertook, I sometimes took over teaching a class and was given help and advice from the head of music on how to plan these lessons and present information clearly to students by making sure that relevant points for the class were written on the board and all materials were prepared sufficiently. As these were classes of around 30 students, it was important for me to set boundaries to make sure that noise levels were kept to a minimum and that I would be walking around the class to check on students and make sure they all understood the task fully.
