Advert description
I have experience supporting students with diverse learning needs through one-on-one tutoring, small-group instruction, and classroom teaching. My experience includes working with elementary, middle, and high school students across a range of academic abilities, including learners who require additional support with attention, processing, communication, and executive functioning skills. While I have not worked as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) or provided formal ABA therapy, I have regularly implemented individualized instructional strategies that align with many evidence-based educational practices. I have worked with students at low-, moderate-, and high-functioning levels. For students with higher support needs, I break lessons into small, manageable steps, use visual examples, model each skill before guided practice, and provide frequent positive reinforcement. I monitor understanding throughout the lesson and adjust my pace based on the student's responses. For students with moderate support needs, I scaffold instruction, provide structured repetition, and gradually reduce assistance as they build confidence and independence. For higher-functioning students, I focus on strengthening problem-solving, critical thinking, and independent learning while continuing to provide organization and encouragement. As a math tutor, I have taught topics ranging from basic arithmetic and pre-algebra to algebra, geometry, calculus, and college mathematics. I also support reading comprehension, writing, and study skills by adapting materials to each student's learning level and interests. My lessons are interactive and emphasize patience, consistency, and celebrating small successes to help students stay engaged and motivated. In addition to tutoring, I served as a primary school teacher in Uganda, where I taught large classrooms of students in mathematics, English, and physical education. This experience strengthened my ability to differentiate instruction, manage a wide range of learning abilities, and create a supportive classroom environment where every student could participate and grow. Overall, my approach is student-centered, patient, and flexible. I believe in building trusting relationships, maintaining clear routines, reinforcing positive behaviors, and adapting instruction so each student can experience academic success and increased confidence.
