I usually begin by reviewing previous learning or checking the student’s understanding of a particular topic. I then explain the concepts using clear examples, gradually moving from simpler questions to more challenging ones. Rather than simply showing students which formula to use, I explain why it works and how to recognise when to apply it. We work through examples together before students attempt questions independently, allowing me to identify any gaps in their understanding.

I also believe that regular practice is essential for making progress. Depending on the student’s goals, I use short quizzes, topic tests and exam style questions to assess their understanding. These help us identify strengths, highlight areas that need more attention and track improvement over time. I can also adapt the pace of lessons and revisit topics whenever necessary, rather than moving on before the student feels confident.
