I am a fluent English speaker with a student-focused approach to teaching. I aim to make my classes engaging, varied and exciting!

Advert description
I am originally from Switzerland and learned English as a teenager and have been living in the UK for over 12 years. This gives me insight into the learning process with an in depth knowledge of the English Language. I have graduated with Honours from two London Universities, both are with humanities degrees. My areas of expertise are art history, film, literature, theatre and pop culture. I find these to be excellent routes into learning a language, and even more importantly understanding the context and culture within which it exists.

I teach in a student centred approach that builds confidence. I focus on a variety of skills throughout the lesson, from reading texts of interest, to discussion, and listening, all whilst focusing on grammar and vocabulary. I am friendly and willing to adapt my style to the needs and interests of each learner. It is very important to me that the students have an enjoyable and enriching time, so I move at the speed catered to the student.

In terms of experience, I have worked as a translator as well as an interpreter. I have also led community events and art related events, this makes me very comfortable in interacting with people, and I have a great ability to put people at ease and get them to engage.

Furthermore, I have extensive experience in creating workshops that utilise different facets of learning through my experience with my own art company Fertile Grounds Art. I have led drama workshops, literature workshops and art workshops. Each of these inform my teaching style and are used in order to activate different learning styles. Some learn best visually, others experientially, and so on and this experience with workshop making ensures that my classes are engaging, varied and exciting. Additionally, I find that a varied approach is more exciting, especially for students that have ADHD, or are otherwise neurodivergent, and are stimulated by novelty, variety and interest. My aim is to lead an inclusive and exciting session that allows for the student to grow in knowledge and confidence!
