Experienced English tutor offering tuition for all levels

Advert description
Hi, I'm Leo. I am a very experienced tutor: I did a Classics and English degree at the University of Oxford and I am currently a Law master's student in London. I have tutored for 2 years, and I am very experienced in AQA, Edexcel and iGCSE exam boards in both English Language and Literature.

I have taught English Language and Literature at all levels, from 11+ up to A Level and university admissions. I am also available to teach Classics and ancient Greek, and to help with university personal statements and interviews.

My approach to tutoring depends entirely on the student. I have experience with students of all standards, from those seriously struggling to those wanting extra challenges. I have helped a student who dropped out of school and just wanted to pass English and Maths, to helping students achieve the highest grades.

With students who struggle more, I tutor with a “root and branch” approach, dealing with core issues such as topic sentences, practising inference from texts, and understanding key literary concepts. Schools sometimes assume that students have the basics before moving on to harder texts like Shakespeare or poetry, so I will help you/your child to have a great understanding of the key skills.

However, with students who want to be stretched, I can also provide challenges. This can be similar to an Oxford tutorial, which I experienced for 4 years. For example, I could bring a challenging poem/text, or use the student's own set texts, and introduce more advanced concepts and techniques for analysis.

At other times, I have also been: a volunteer drama teacher at a school in Bristol; a volunteer research assistant at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford documenting and studying ancient coins; and I have taught improvisation and theatre companies, running workshops and directing shows.

Testimonials:
‘Leo definitely deserves the excellent rating. He is very knowledgeable and very patient and explains things really well.’

‘Leo knows his subject well and he knows how to teach. My son has finally found a way through something which was not working well for him for so long. I would not hesitate to recommend Leo.’
In the other parts of my life, I am a law student, a mandolinist and a keen swimmer!
