English tutor providing lessons to all ages

Advert description
My name is Sophia O'Neill and I am an undergraduate student studying Law and Economics. I will be going into my fourth and final year this coming September, shortly after which I hope to become a practicing lawyer and/or lecturer in law. I was born and raised in the UK with my native language being English, and studying it has always been a great passion of mine.

I have experience as both a teaching assistant and private tutor - both experiences I enjoyed and succeeded at greatly. Some of my teaching methods include individualized instruction, diagnostic assessment, Socratic method, and interest-based learning. Most importantly, I strive to work with students to achieve their goals in a manner best suited to them and their learning styles.

Importantly, I have been awarded a LEVEL 5 TEFL certification with over 150 guided learning hours of coursework, assignments, and exercises to refine my teaching skills.

Dear Student, My name is Sophia O'Neill and I am a university student studying Law and Economics. I was born in the UK with my native language being English. I have always been extremely passionate about both studying and teaching English and this became evident in school as I considered it my favourite subject. Often winning awards for poetry, creative writing, and literature, it seemed appropriate that I refine my knowledge of English even more with an extensive TEFL course. This learning experience has taught me the most effective ways to keep a lesson both engaging and beneficial to each individual student.

Experience:

- I have previous experience assisting teachers with young students in a classroom setting. Part of my role included assessing students, supporting students in their learning, and providing one-on-one time with students who needed greater support.
- Additionally, I have worked with students one-on-one and supported them in mastering their English language at the relevant appropriate level. This teaching has ranged from grammar work to essay writing and literature studies.

Teaching Methods:

I like to employ several teaching methods to ensure interesting and engaging classes every session. Please find examples below.

- Individualized Instruction: Customize teaching to the student's learning style, pace, and interests.
- Diagnostic Assessment: Identify strengths, weaknesses, and learning gaps for personalized instruction.
- Socratic Method: Encourage critical thinking and problem-solving through guided questioning.
- Interest-Based Learning: Incorporate student interests for increased engagement.
- Immediate Feedback: Provide timely and specific feedback to reinforce understanding.
