Discover Your Artistic Voice: Master Drawing by Exploring the Interconnectedness of History, Theory, and Practice!

Advert description
I am an artist with a PhD from the University of Manchester, where I combined art history with research in art practice, focusing on the history, theory, and practice of drawing. Additionally, I am an associate lecturer at Central Saint Martins, School of Art and Design in London.

My teaching focuses on the historical theories of practice that define key moments in the history of Western art, from the classical past to the contemporary present.

Classes will alternate between lecture-style presentations on the philosophical and theoretical premises of specific historical moments and the practical methods developed in accordance with these premises.

Depending on the needs and wants of individual learners, we can spend more or less time on certain aspects and historical moments, or work chronologically towards a working knowledge of contemporary drawing, which is steeped in the history that precedes it and from which it arises.

The aim of my approach is to encourage contemporary students to regard the histories and theories of practice as the media and materials through which they can develop a distinctive artistic voice of their own. It aims to facilitate an understanding of the why as well as the how of drawing, thereby allowing students to feel confident about both the conception and execution of their own graphic works of art.

My teaching is designed for those who wish to develop their own artistic voice today, through a rigorous yet creative immersion in the examples of the past.
