My name is Isabel and I have recently completed my MPhil in English at Cambridge. While I have not tutored before, I am enthusiastic and passionate about the subject and I see it as an invaluable step towards my goal of teaching as well as a chance to build confidence, curiosity, and a genuine love for the subject in others. I would also appreciate the ability to contribute meaningfully towards a student’s approach to the subject, and to learn from them too. I see tutoring success measured not only materially by improved grades, but also by the student’s determination and enthusiasm to learn from mistakes and think critically about language.
English is a varied subject, and emphasizing the critical thinking skills developed through essay writing and reading demonstrates its usefulness across subjects.
Outside of the classroom, I’m rarely sitting still. I enjoy hiking, climbing and running, and spending early mornings rowing on the river. I have also written for the student newspaper and collaborated with editors to produce a published work. The communication skills developed through these societies form the foundation of my tutoring approach: building a love for literature.
