Advert description
I would be delighted to support students of Art History from A-level to MA, whether to support week-to-week understanding of your course readings or to provide specific coaching on academic writing, essays or dissertations.
I have masters degrees in both Mathematics from the University of Cambridge in 2005 and Art History at Birkbeck, University of London, for which I was awarded a high distinction in 2024. In between I have been delighted to tutor a range of students from Common Entrance through to BA in both subjects. Having completed postgraduate study as a mature student, I am especially passionate about supporting students from non-traditional backgrounds. I did not have the opportunity to study the history of art at school but believe passionately about its importance in understanding both the history and present of how we live better together, as well as offering a unique visual language through which to explore society!
I have 20 years experience as a freelance tutor, and am presently pursuing an Art History degree having achieved highly competitive funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council to explore my specialism in early twentieth-century British Art, that crosses disciplines of art and craft, economics and popular culture.
I bring a highly empathetic approach to tutoring, believing it can only be effective if I understand your goals and interests. I give regular talks and lectures to adult audiences alongside my academic tutoring, and hope to be able to articulate complex contexts in a relatable way. Alongside my expertise in nineteenth and twentieth-century European and American Art I have wide-ranging study from the early medieval to contemporary art. I am particularly interested in early histories of Asia and the global south.
