I would go though basic material via questions to find out what the student knows, doesn't know and thinks they know. From there I would order topic/sub topics in order of what I and the student think needs work. After which I'll thoroughly go through example questions with the student, observing how they respond and adjusting techniques and teaching until they grasp what they need to. Occasionally folding back to previous material while learning the new in order to maintain the students knowledge of all topics.
