Advert description
Hi, I'm the author of the Rapid Method for Learning Thai.
We start with becoming literate. It seems counter-intuitive, but trying to learn the language with inconsistent and incorrect phonetic transliterations will only lead to a dead end.
Thai is a very logical, consistent (albeit crazy) language. There's method in its madness. And that makes it very easy to learn. It takes about 45 hours to learn how to read Thai and sound out any word accurately and with the correct tone.
The tones are the same as in English! (We have tones in English? Yes, we do.) I show how to map the English tones (like asking a question or speaking emphatically) onto a Thai word that has the same tone.
That's the easy part.
Now you can read street signs and menus and songs and use the LINE or FB apps and browse the internet (we even explore some of the rather explicit "sideline" sites that can ONLY be accessed by Thai people).
The next step is to work through the first-year conversational course from the University of Washington, Everyday Thai for Beginners. Here we learn how to express ideas in different practical situations. It's a 120-hour programme (30 chapters, 4 lessons for each chapter), which will take a year to complete leisurely.
Spaced-repetition flashcards are provided so that you build up your vocabulary gradually and effortlessly.
By the end of a year, you will be relatively fluent in basic conversational Thai, and be able to chat to people and get around independently. Most foreigners studying 4-6 hours/week don't manage to achieve this even after 3-4 years of study!
Call me for an exciting journey into Thai language, culture, humour and sex!
:)
