I am an experienced tutor having tutored English, Latin, and RE. For a year I voluntarily taught Latin as an after school club in a primary school. I aim to build confidence in those I teach. I begin by making sure those I help can grasp the basics of things they may find difficult, and then I aim to build their confidence through gentle repetition of what they have learnt in order to build confidence and install a sense of self-reliance. Having taught Latin, I have witnessed firsthand the importance of repetition in order to sustain knowledge learnt and maintain both a confidence and a longer lasting awareness of what has been learnt. When I taught the aforementioned Latin, I found that once they had grasped the basic grammatical constructs, it was really the repetition that allowed them to really garner an understanding of what they had taught and that consequently allowed them to implement it into new things they had learnt. The needs of those I teach are put absolutely first. I ideally like to know the specific problem areas that need to be strengthened and I would plan a lesson accordingly wholly centred around their needs. I would start off with some more basic aspects but just build on that, and I find naturally that the self-confidence and self-belief also comes naturally alongside that. Depending on how you progress I will adjust accordingly and go at whatever pace is both required and/or necessary, especially if a specific deadline is needing to be met. I also believe that something is truly understood when you yourself can competently explain it to me, and hopefully you will be able to see the results firsthand in the manner you relay information and understanding of said information.
