A-levels and GCSE examiner and university lecturer in translation

Hi, my name is Carla, and I truly believe I am the best tutor you will ever find to teach you Portuguese, Italian, and English. I hold a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Sheffield and an MSc in Developmental Linguistics from the University of Edinburgh. Since 2014, I have worked at the Universities of York, Sheffield, Manchester, Surrey and Birmingham. During these years I have been responsible for creating and teaching short and year-long Portuguese courses and undergraduate and postgraduate modules in language, linguistics, and translation. These opportunities gave me first-hand experience designing and developing online learning content and exams. Besides my experience in Higher Education, I have been also teaching languages using online platforms since 2018, which made me very comfortable with designing and delivering private and group lessons online.

I have also worked in language and regular schools teaching Portuguese, Italian, and English for the past 15 years. Moreover, I have been working as an oral examiner, instructor, and marker for the GCSE and A-level examinations since 2015.

I also work as a paper settler in various institutions in the UK, both in the private and public sectors. These experiences helped me to build solid expertise in language teaching, examination settling and marking, and teacher training. Thus, enabling me to help my students to achieve their learning goals in a short period.
