Advert description
Hi! I’m Manako, a BSc Medical Biosciences student at Imperial College London. I moved to the UK in Year 8 and understand how challenging it can be to adapt to the British education system, especially as an English as a second language (ESL) learner. I struggled in Years 8 and 9, but with support, I gained confidence and achieved top grades—10 GCSEs and 5 A-level.
Tutoring Experience
I have experience tutoring students who struggle with maths and science, offering explanations and resources that suit their learning style. I also provide advice on UCAS applications and STEM-related careers. As a native Japanese speaker who attended Japanese Saturday school from age 12 to 18, I can also support Japanese students learning in English and explain the UK school system.
Exam Boards I’ve Studied
• GCSEs: OCR (Maths, Sciences, Music), AQA (English, Business, D&T), Edexcel (French)
• A-levels: OCR (Maths, Chemistry, Physics), Eduqas (Biology), Edexcel (Japanese)
Teaching Style
In our first session, I’ll ask what you want to focus on and try different approaches to find what suits you best. I focus on helping you understand the content deeply and feel confident solving problems independently.
Hobbies
I enjoy playing clarinet in orchestras and bands, and I’ve completed Silver Duke of Edinburgh. I also play women’s rugby at university and love the outdoors!
