Advert description
I am a second-year medical student at Imperial College London which has been the highest ranked medical school and 2nd highest ranked university for the past two years. I have really been loving my time here. I am a student who comes from a working-class background who received minimal help and had to figure everything out myself, so afterwards I became a tutor who not only does regular school syllabus but also helps students with external opportunities such as outreach programmes, essay competitions, MOOC'S, interview practice and etc.
The average lesson with me occurs on an interactive whiteboard system where I have a pre-prepared lesson plan which we would cover. I would first explain the topic of the lesson and the key terms that the student doesn't already understand and then explain any new concepts and then contextualise those concepts. Once I feel the student has a good understanding of the topic we will use application questions to use the knowledge gained in different contexts to improve the student's understanding of the concept using exam questions from past papers. We will then see any reoccurring or important marking points and take note of those to improve exam technique. I also offer mentoring sessions where we work on skills or projects outside the student's regular syllabus, this could range from interview practice for example on a medical school application to a session where we work on essay competitions. I will also work to help find external opportunities that orientate towards the student's goals, for example contextual schools for certain universities that will lower the student's requirements to enter certain universities. I hope all the best for students that have read so far!
