With a subject as notoriously hard as Physics, being “good at maths” is not enough, and this is a common point of frustration in students. Physics requires a unique blend of intuition and understanding; the mathematics needed is not as much as many believe.

Lessons are directly driven by the student. When a student is explaining their answer or reasoning to an answer, it is important to ask, “ok, why?. This little push is essential to building a real understanding of the subject, and only then can you defeat the exam papers.

The second most vital skill is a surprising one. Confidence in yourself. No one needs 100% to get the grade they want, but letting a single tricky 3-marker in question 2 screw up your mentality is the real danger. A true A* getter understands how to manage their time, their confidence and secure marks.
