Advert description
I have prior experience tutoring students as a teaching assistant for an introductory computer science course at one of my previous universities.
This experience enables me to quickly identify the common pitfalls that arise when learning programming for the first time. Given this, my approach to teaching programming is as follows:
1. Start with defining the various structures that one will encounter in any programming language. This includes primitive types, variables. I will also introduce how a script typically executes.
2. I would then move on to variables, control flow, and functions. These topics are foundational for understanding Object-Oriented paradigms, so I would ensure my students have a solid basis before moving on.
3. I would conclude by covering Object-Oriented paradigms such as Inheritance, Encapsulation, and Polymorphism. These patterns are used all throughout industry, so it is crucial to understand them in order to read code that others have written.
All of the information would be disseminated in the form of a micro-lecture using slides curated by myself. Afterwards I would demonstrate the topic of that lesson with a brief tutorial. I find that a hands on approach is the best for learning how to code, so the majority of the time would be spent working on small projects.
