Advert description
I am an experienced teacher of English with over twenty years in the classroom, both independent and state sectors, teaching Year 8 to Year 13, and five years' online teaching and tutoring. Previously Head of English in a leading Dorset school, I have designed courses, schemes of work and taught OCR, AQA and CIE English syllabuses at GCSE and A level, as well as the IB.
So how am I different from other tutors? I believe that if you are comfortable in your learning, allowed to grow in confidence, allowed to ask questions, allowed to make mistakes (without being singled out or mocked), you will have more faith in your ability which will lead to greater academic success and, yes, to even better exam results. I aim to work out what makes you best able to engage with the learning process in order to fulfil your potential.
I offer support for students:
• From Year 8 to Year 13
• Preparing for school entry – at Year 9 or Sixth form
• Who find the school environment overwhelming
• Who have missed school through illness, or other personal reasons
• Preparing for the next term
• Wishing to expand their extra-curricular reading
• Wanting to discuss syllabus or non-syllabus related reading
• Wanting to practise exam technique
• Revising for exams - Boards: OCR (A Level and GCSE); AQA (A Level and GCSE); CIE IGCSE (English Language and English Literature).
• Preparing for Oxbridge
Apart from reading I enjoy cinema, theatre going, fishing, cooking, walking, swimming, most sports – both watching and participating, and trying to understand my Cocker Spaniel.
