GCSE English Language and Literature Expert tutor

Advert description
As a full-time tutor of GCSE English Language and Literature with a passion for the discipline. I have developed a student-centred, varied and elaborative teaching approach.

I have expert knowledge for multiple exam boards in which I regularly update myself on any changes or new approaches. The exam boards I specialise in are:

--> Eduquas
--> WJEC
--> AQA
--> Pearson Edexcel (including iGCSE)

Throughout my tutoring I have guided students through a range of key literary texts for the English Literature qualification.

My best texts:

--> A Christmas Carol
--> Macbeth
--> The Tempest
--> Romeo and Juliet
---> An Inspector Calls
--> Blood brothers
--> Othello
--> Silas Marner
--> A view from the bridge
--> Animal farm
--> Pride and prejudice

Please note other texts are available on request.

For each key text we have delved into key analysis literary features as well as looking at specific writing conventions of plays for example – asides, soliloquies, dialogue.

Additionally my coverage of three poetry anthologies allowed for in depth and detailed analysis, one exam board featuring the use of context in the answer. Key poetry features were taught and applied such as iambic pentameter and rhyming couplets. To expand, different forms of poems were explored like sonnets and free verse.

For English Language we covered key linguistic features in depth, practised reading comprehension and looked at close reading skills and text analysis. We also explored creative writing and transactional writing in detail with lots of opportunity to practise. An example would be letter writing and the inclusion of salutations, persuasive language, and formal address.

For each writing form purpose and audience were investigated in relation to levels of formality and appropriate language e.g., lack of slang, colloquialisms across most forms. Across both language and literature many practise questions and past papers were endured to give students first hand experience with the completion of essay questions etc. Exam technique was heavily focused on to ensure timing, structure and correct response.

To provide some examples of the successes I have had: A student who began with 6,6 and achieved 9,9 and a student who started a 2 and four months later achieved grade 6 and is continually progressing.
