Advert description
I have always had the desire to pursue a career which supports children and adults, both emotionally and academically. Since graduating with a degree in Educational Studies, I have gained 10 years of experience in various Teaching Assistant roles in both Primary and Secondary schools; and in these roles I have worked with a number of children with a diverse range of needs, usually on a one-to-one basis.
My current role requires me to create and deliver tailor-made learning activities and manage challenging behaviour; whilst also providing an environment which positively engages the children with their work. I work closely with teaching staff to help create strategic learning plans to help decide how to progress with a child’s learning. I have also had experience working within the schools administration office where I would regularly communicate with parents. These role have required me to be understanding, empathetic, adapt to change and confidently communicate with colleagues, parents and students.
In the past 4 years, our school devised a ‘Well-Being Group’ in order to provide help for pupils who are struggling within the school environment; focusing on pupils who are having difficulties at home, friendships or generally the school day routine. Through the sessions the children participate in a range of well-being activities in a more relaxed setting during their lunch hour. Staff and children sit together with their lunches and the pupils are able to ‘Check In’ by initiating conversation. Well-being activities may include self-reflection tasks, understanding and expressing emotions and recognising their individual weekly achievements.
I have been employed in the schools ‘After School Club’, in this environment I was able to liaise with parents which has been beneficial to my Teaching Assistant role as I have been able to build trustworthy relationships. In this setting, my role and the way in which I interacted with the children became slightly different and I was able to work more closely with their interest and hobbies. This helped me to understand a pupil and if needed support them during the school day.
