It can be frustrating hitting a wall in subjects like Math and Physics. It is easy to get lost in abstract formulas and confusing jargon. My goal is to shift your perspective so you develop a genuine intuition that simply clicks.
I know this transformation is possible because I lived it. For years, I struggled with SOHCAHTAO, an arbitrary acronym for trigonometry that had to be memorised. My 'ah-ha' moment came when I learned that trigonometry is not about triangles - it's truly all about circles! Since then I've never had to rely on rote memorisation, and instead lean on intuition to see the answer.
My approach to teaching is based on this premise. My role is to give you a perspective that will be instrumental for unlocking your understanding. I'm here to help you or your child unlock how to think about the problem - a skill that will stand you in good stead in examination and in life. I understand that true learning takes repetition. I'm patient and I understand that concepts which are clear to me may not be obvious to others.
We will explore where you are struggling with a few questions and a test paper. We will focus on fostering intuition and understanding. In part, lots of practice will be necessary, and we'll do questions alongside each other, and then compare our results. I know the value of practice firsthand. My Further Maths teacher kept us after school to work through past papers, and that dedication was crucial for my success. I bring that same focus on structured practice to my students. Finally, we will apply critical exam techniques to help maximise your grades.
I hold a demanding degree in Electronic Engineering, and now - after taking two years out working and traveling in Canada - I am studying a Master's in Aeronautics at Cranfield University. My academic background requires a deep understanding of higher-level mathematics and physics, and I'm always learning.
Beyond academics, I enjoy playing jazz and rock guitar, and also I play ice hockey. My favourite colour is orange!
