First-Class Cambridge University Physics graduate tutoring Maths and Science

Hi! I’m Sophie and I just graduated from Cambridge University with a First-Class Master’s degree in Natural Sciences, specialising in Physics. I achieved 4 A*s in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, and Chemistry at A-level, and all 9s/A*s at GCSE. I want to share my excitement and enthusiasm for maths and science with students to help them achieve their goals whether it's passing their GCSEs or gaining a place at a top university. Outside of tutoring, I'm applying for PhDs in quantum computing labs.

I’ve been tutoring for the past 7 years, both privately and on a voluntary basis. I started tutoring online 5 years ago at the start of the pandemic and have since continued with a combination of online and in-person sessions, depending on the needs and location of the student. I tutor Maths and Science from KS1 up to A-level, tailoring every session to suit the individual needs and goals of each student. I have experience working with a wide range of abilities and learning styles. For example, I have previously worked with students:
- With dyslexia, ASD, ADHD
- Who have missed school due to illness
- Whose first language is not English
- Who are mature learners (aged 40+)
I have also helped several students with their university applications. This has included reviewing personal statements, mock Oxbridge interviews, admissions test preparation and discussing different options (e.g universities and courses).

My approach to tutoring is structured, thorough, and exam-focused. I typically begin by revisiting the content for a given topic to ensure there are no gaps in understanding, cross-checking carefully against the relevant specification so the student is confident with everything they are expected to know. Once the foundations are secure, we move on to targeted exam-style questions, where I help students practise applying their knowledge effectively. Throughout this process, I explicitly teach exam technique, including common pitfalls, mark-scheme insights, and practical tips and tricks to help students maximise marks and approach questions with confidence.
