Advert description
I do not mind following a provided lesson plan if I am told to do so. However, I would first introduce myself to the student and talk to them as an equal. As I am also in school I can relate to my tutee, building an important friendship with the student, as if they leave feeling unhappy, they will not return for another lesson. On a student's first few lessons, I will go through a few past papers with them depending on what they are studying for. I do this to find the student's weaknesses, as I have seen that most do not or cannot state their weaknesses as they are either unaware of them or do not wish to state them. I take note of their strengths and weaknesses, then create a tailored lesson plan for the student, teaching them the topics they struggled on more often. I will regularly test their acquired and existing knowledge and skills by assigning them challenging practice questions meant to boost the student's chance of success in mathematics. Closer to examinations, I begin to run through practice papers with them, addressing any gaps in their knowledge that they may have and help them with timing. The final few sessions before the exam, I give the student final advice on how to achieve their best score possible. As a student who sat the same exams not too long ago I would give them reliable and trusted advice. I would maintain a very friendly relationship with each and every student throughout their time with me to ensure they remember me and this business, as no teaching, no matter how professional, will help a student more than one who has a healthy relationship with learning.
I have many certificates in UKMT challenges that I have acquired during my time in secondary school. This showcases my strength in mathematics and my commitment to the subject. I achieved a grade 9 in GCSE mathematics and I am taking mathematics for A-levels. I am also enrolling in the Oxford University COMPOS program to keep my mathematic competency at a high caliber.
My younger brother and I both got into grammar schools. I received no tuition for the 11+ or for any of my studies. This has made me a far more independent learner than most, so I will help students become independent, leading to improved exam performances. I also helped my brother pass his 11+ by mentoring him, so I have experience working with young students including teaching my baby brother to count.
