I worked with Charles when he taught secondary maths and science to classes in Botswana. English was a second language to these students and he was very sensitive to the use of language. He was very interested in the philosophy of education and read widely on teaching theories. Islamic art and mathematics is an example of his wide interests. He helped government educational advisors working in the country and took an active part in several workshops ran by the government in the school holidays for teachers and other educators.
