Advert description
My approach to one-to-one teaching is built around understanding each student as an individual first. Before diving into any content, I take time to identify where the student currently is, what they find challenging, how they prefer to learn, and what their goals are. Every student is different, and a truly effective private lesson should feel nothing like a classroom.
In practice, my sessions typically begin with a short informal conversation to check understanding from previous work and identify any gaps or misconceptions. I then introduce new concepts using clear, simple language, avoiding unnecessary jargon and always connecting abstract ideas to real-world examples. As an engineer and scientist who works with AI, robotics, and medical technology every day, I have a wealth of genuine real-world applications to draw on, which students find engaging and memorable.
I believe strongly in active learning rather than passive listening. Rather than simply explaining and moving on, I encourage students to attempt problems themselves, make mistakes in a safe and supportive environment, and develop the confidence to work through challenges independently. My role is not to give answers but to build understanding.
I am patient, calm, and encouraging by nature. I never make a student feel embarrassed for not knowing something, and I celebrate progress at every level, however small. I regularly check in during sessions to ensure the student is following comfortably, and I adjust my pace and approach accordingly.
At the end of each session I summarise key points, set targeted practice tasks, and agree clear goals for the next lesson to ensure continuity and steady progress.
