I am a recent first-class graduate from Durham University holding a masters in mathematics following achieving a 9 in GCSE Mathematics and A*A* in A-Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics. I have previously mentored high-achieving students at my local state school to study maths and engineering at university. I am now branching out to increase my exposure to willing students.
At all levels, teaching should emphasise understanding concepts rather than rote memorisation. I teach my students to think like mathematicians for even the simplest problems. Why do we factorise quadratic equations? What are the uses for imaginary numbers? Why does proof by induction work? By answering these questions before tackling practice questions, students are more motivated to learn mathematics and achieve better grades as a result.
As part of my teaching method, I also personally write my resources, tailored to each student. This allows the student to continue their learning beyond our sessions and remember what was taught to them. Outside of sessions, I am free 24/7 to answer any questions and inside sessions I strive to remain as affordable as possible - coming from a state school background I am a firm believer that education should have no barriers to entry.
If this is interesting to you, please contact me to see my CV, examples of resources I have created and to discuss what you would like to achieve from your tutoring sessions. I look forward to talking to you. I am available online and in person.
