Advert description
As Assistant Head Boy, I was responsible for gathering feedback from students and working with the head of sixth form to address issues across the school. This role strengthened my communication and teamwork skills which are essential when explaining mathematical concepts clearly and adapting to different learning needs.
I also helped plan a Red Nose Day event, which developed my organisational skills and taught me the importance of planning. This ability to structure and manage tasks is directly useful when planning lessons, setting learning goals, and helping students stay on track.
Through leading a mentoring programme for younger pupils, I gained valuable experience in guiding students academically and boosting their confidence. This gave me the opportunity to practise leadership, patience, and decision-making; all qualities that I now bring into tutoring.
I have also completed work experience at Lea Forest Primary Academy, where I assisted teachers in the classroom, reviewed students’ writing tasks, and supported them with mathematics topics. I received excellent feedback from my supervisor, who highlighted the positive impact I had on the pupils. This experience gave me hands-on practice in helping students understand and apply ideas, something I am eager to continue through tutoring.
My work experience at Deloitte further developed my collaboration and presentation skills, as I worked within a team to solve problems and explain strategies clearly. Being able to present ideas logically is a skill I now apply when breaking down complex maths topics for students.
Outside of academics, I enjoy chess, which has sharpened my problem-solving and strategic thinking; qualities I bring into tutoring to help students approach questions in different ways. Playing football has refined my teamwork and adaptability, while completing the Duke of Edinburgh Award taught me independence, resilience, and perseverance. All traits that I apply when supporting students through their learning journey.
