Tutor from the Midwestern US - Learn everyday conversation in plain American English

I am 65 years old and have had a rich life. I have some formal English training in Engineering Writing and College English. However, I pride myself on being a master of American English as it is commonly spoken - being a reader, poet, and letter writer all my life.
As Mark Twain said many years ago, "I am not AN American - I am THE American"!
I spent 10 years working in Brazil and have an elementary command of Portuguese, both written and spoken.
I am currently teaching a young lady to improve her English, once a week in person here in Orlando.
We are using the USA Today, other articles from books and magazines, and some sites on the internet.
