First Class TCD graduate, 625-point Leaving Cert tutoring Logic, Philosophy & Leaving Cert Maths

Advert description
I'm Robert, a philosopher and mathematician based in Dublin, with a First Class Honours degree in Mathematics & Philosophy from Trinity College Dublin. I'm about to begin an MLitt in Philosophy at the University of St Andrews.

My research is in philosophy of logic and language, philosophy of mathematics, and metametaphysics. I've published in the Trinity Student Philosophical Review, have papers under review, and I'm presenting at conferences in Salzburg, Potsdam, and LMU this year. I also campaign on philosophy education in Ireland, including a proposal for a Leaving Cert Philosophy subject.

I got 625 points (maximum) in my own Leaving Cert and have tutored maths ever since, so I know the courses and marking schemes inside out. I've taught logic and philosophy professionally since 2023, and love helping students, from secondary school to university, get to grips with material that can feel abstract or intimidating. Lessons are structured but personalised, focused on real understanding first.

I teach online, and in person across Dublin, Louth, Meath and surrounding areas.

Philosophical & Formal Logic
- University-level: first-order quantificational logic, higher-order logics, modal logic, for bachelor's and master's students
- 1 or 2 hour sessions (1 hour recommended); online and in person
- Proof methods, practice questions, and strategies for counterexamples and countermodels
- Problem-solving focused: we work through proofs together until the method is fully understood and repeatable

Philosophy & History of Philosophy
- Text-based philosophy for secondary school through undergraduate: history of philosophy from antiquity to present (mainly analytic tradition), plus epistemology, metaphysics, ethics, and philosophy of language and logic
- 1 or 2 hour sessions (2 hours recommended); online and in person
- Close reading, argument reconstruction and evaluation, essay planning, and exam/interview technique

Mathematics (Primary to Leaving Cert)
- Irish maths courses, marking schemes, and common pitfalls, from primary school through Junior Cycle to Leaving Cert Ordinary and Higher Level
- 1 or 2 hour sessions; online and in person
- Topic-by-topic teaching, exam technique, past-paper practice, and clear feedback on where marks are lost
