I learnt how to use a semi-colon from Charles Dickens!

Hi,
I am currently working at a Bedford-area school as an English language and Literature tutor. I am getting great feedback and I think the pupils respond to my enthusiastic teaching style. I have at last understood the uses of the semi-colon after resuming reading Charles Dickens, who was an unrivalled master in the use of them. My main piece of advice for students is do plenty of wide reading to improve knowledge of words and sentence structure. I have always loved reading literature and often read poems to my students to bring them off the page and into the present. Good poetry is always relevant.
