Advert description
Hi, I’m Cormac. I have taught English to over 100 students at an English Academy in Guatemala. They ranged from teenagers with a B2 level or even C1 in English all the way down to 4 year olds hearing English for the very first time. With young students, bringing energy to the classroom is essential and this came naturally to me because of my interest in how we learn languages. I have learnt about Krashen’s theory of Comprehensible Input and made sure I spent time with all of my classes explaining these concepts as I believe it is essential to understand the mechanism of language acquisition and how we can utilise it in our own language learning journey.
This methodology has helped me reach C1 in Spanish and is how I continue to learn Spanish to this day. I want to empower other people in their journey learning English and I think sharing our own experiences is a really useful and motivating part of learning a new language. I have spent my entire life learning Spanish, and have recently reached C1 level and am finally fluent in my family’s native tongue. I understand the struggles with learning a foreign language but I have also done extensive research into the most effective ways to learn and my level in Spanish is proof of these concepts that I will happily share with anyone who will listen.
A bit about me, I am half-English, quarter-Spanish, quarter-Ukranian. I went to the University of Leeds to study Medical Sciences where I received the Faculty of Biological Sciences highest academic award, for both my second and final years. I have also been lucky enough to spend a year working at Imperial College London at their Centre for Psychedelic Research with some of the biggest names in Psychedelic Science like Prof David Nutt, Dr Robin-Carhart Harris and Dr David Erritzøe. I have a strong academic background that will be useful for students who want to practice and improve their academic writing or medical English, prepare for interviews, discuss science and technology.
If you are interested in discovering more about how we learn languages and how we can apply this to learning a second language, I would love the opportunity to share these insights with you.
