I am fairly new to tutoring however I have tutored younger students while I was at school and university. The way I like to teach is firstly to see how far you are and what you're comfortable with, this allows me to focus on teaching you the parts you struggle with. The way I found is the best way to learn is by firstly letting me explain the technique, second I will show you an example of how to use the technique. Then its your turn to solve a problem using the technique I have just taught you with some help from me. From there I will see how much you comprehend from what I've taught you and give you problems to solve accordingly, and thats all it is really maths is a subject of repetition, practice makes perfect aftet all. Learning from experience is how I found success, although I know how hard it can be to learn new things especially in maths so adapting my methods to suit the student is something I am very open to doing.
