My lessons are structured but still flexible, depending on each student’s needs and goals. I usually start by working out any areas of difficulty or topics the student would like to focus on, then break these down into clear, simple explanations that are easy to follow. Lessons usually include a mix of teaching, discussion, and practice questions so students can actively apply what they’ve learned, rather than just listening passively.
In Religious Studies, I focus on helping students build a strong understanding of key concepts, ethical theories, religious teachings, and philosophical arguments, as well as developing their ability to evaluate and form balanced judgments. A key part of my lessons is also improving exam skills, especially essay structure, building clear and well-reasoned arguments, and learning how to include analysis and evaluation to reach higher marks in a confident way.
I also have experience supporting younger students through peer tutoring and school-based mentoring, which has helped me develop a calm, patient, and approachable teaching style. This also means I’m comfortable adapting explanations in different ways until the student feels confident, whether that’s through examples, step-by-step breakdowns, or guided practice.
Overall, my lessons are friendly, supportive, interactive, and encouraging, with the aim of helping students feel more confident and comfortable with the subject while steadily improving their understanding and exam performance. I also try to make sessions engaging and low-pressure so students feel able to ask questions freely and build their confidence over time, while developing independent study skills and a more positive mindset towards learning.
