As a tutor, I like to use multiple approaches when it comes to teaching my student. This is due to the fact that I believe a different approach is needed for every student. I like to follow a five step approach. The first step is to provide the student with a small test. This test will provide me with a foundation to identify the key problems. Then, alongside communication with the student, I will put together a checklist of things that need to be covered. This checklist will be constantly reviewed to see what needs to be added or removed. The third step we take is during the lessons, I will first model the lesson and the student will follow. After a few examples, I will provide the student with some questions to test their knowledge. After seeing the results, if we need to go over it again, we will study the same topic, if not we will further our knowledge. The fourth step will be our most important in order to see the effectiveness of our tutoring lessons. I will set homework for the student to test their knowledge. The homework will be on the past weeks tutor lesson which will help them to refresh their memory. Consistency is key. The homework will be compulsory and must be completed to a high standard. The final step is I will provide the student with a test at the end of each topic. This will help them refresh their memory and provide evidence of the student's progress.
