The main thing I try to teach to my students is confidence. I believe that confidence is the key that changes a student who is struggling with their maths into someone who is proficient and thorough.

I do this through at first by trying to figure out how confident they already are across various different topics. I then use this data to try to specifically cater problems and discussions at first towards what they do feel somewhat strong at as I feel this builds up confidence for them and a good working relationship between the two of us. I then slowly add more layers to their work until I feel they are ready to take a mini quiz on the topic. Once they have done this we can either move forwards or backwards accordingly.

A lot of my lessons will begin more as discussions where I try to sprinkle in a few problems or questions that relate to the topic, and then I move into testing them with slightly more complex problems which they then have to explain to me to make sure they are really understanding it, and then towards the end of a topic we will move into more exam style questions which will be the measurement of where they are at and where I need to go with them next.
