As a dedicated maths tutor, I focus on building both subject knowledge and problem-solving confidence through a structured yet flexible approach. My lessons are designed around each student’s needs, ensuring that they not only learn the material but also develop the ability to apply it in different contexts, whether for school exams, A-levels, or general understanding.

To make lessons as effective as possible, I set a minimum of one hour of homework each week, tailored to the student’s level and current progress. Homework is collected two days before our session, giving me time to carefully mark and review it in detail. This allows me to identify strengths, highlight misconceptions, and spot areas needing extra support. Using this feedback, I plan lessons that directly address the student’s gaps while reinforcing their existing knowledge.

A typical lesson begins with a short review of common mistakes or tricky questions from the homework, followed by clear, step-by-step explanations of new concepts. I then guide the student through practice questions, encouraging independent thinking while offering support where needed. Towards the end of the session, I provide exam-style problems or extension tasks to consolidate learning and stretch ability.

This structure ensures lessons are purposeful and personalised, with clear progress from week to week. My aim is for students to leave each lesson not only understanding the material better, but also feeling more confident in their ability to tackle maths independently
