I am an experienced private tutor with a strong background in secondary education and SEND. I spent two years working within a secondary-school SEND team and have supported young people with a wide range of needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH and communication difficulties.

I currently provide individual English and Maths tuition, including GCSE and Functional Skills. I adapt lessons to each student’s ability, interests and individual needs, breaking difficult material into manageable steps and providing a calm, structured and encouraging learning environment.

I particularly enjoy supporting students who have lost confidence in education, experience anxiety around learning, have gaps in their knowledge, or benefit from more individual support than is possible in a classroom. My lessons focus not only on academic progress, but also on developing confidence, engagement and independence.

I can support English language, literacy, comprehension, writing, grammar, exam preparation and general academic skills. Lessons are available in person around Haslemere and the surrounding area, or online. My teaching is highly personalised rather than based on a fixed formula. I usually begin by identifying the student’s strengths, areas for development and any barriers to learning, before setting clear and achievable goals. Lessons combine explanation, guided practice and increasingly independent work, with regular opportunities to revisit previous learning. For English, I can support reading comprehension, creative and transactional writing, grammar, vocabulary and exam technique. I am also comfortable adapting the pace, structure and resources for students with additional needs. Above all, I want students to leave lessons feeling that they have genuinely understood something and are capable of progressing further.
