I like to integrate different styles into my teaching to ensure maximum learning . This is very much a 1:1 approach where, by working together, student and I find out just what learning style works for them. Taking advantage of my experience as a fellow student and a tutor, I enrich the lessons with both perspectives.
My students can expect captivating and well-put PowerPoint presentations of the fundamentals, interactive quizzes to rectify misconceptions, chapter summaries and videos, past paper examples that we attempt together, and open conversations where questions and concerns can be addressed. Wherever it is the student it struggling the most, be it the theory or the application of the ideas, the tutoring shall be aimed at tackling with impact. I will also recommend and supply useful resources for further reading and practice, which may be useful for the students own self-learning.
The learning environment is a sharp contrast from that of a typical classroom where the student sits, listens and just absorbs information being thrown at them. Instead, the tutoring is down-to-earth, calm, non-judgmental, and above all. I include various "breather's" within the lesson, sanity checks to ensure the ideas are driving home, and cheeky on the spot questions to keep the student alert! My task is not to hold your hand and show you the blue-print of how to cheat the algorithms of examinations. Instead, it is to give you the confience to face what can sometimes be an intimidating subject, and turn things around :)
