My sessions follow a clear structure that builds confidence at every stage. For online lessons I use an interactive shared whiteboard where students write their working in real time, meaning I can see exactly where their thinking goes wrong rather than just seeing a final incorrect answer. This makes a huge difference because I can catch misconceptions the moment they happen rather than after the fact. I start with a recap of previous material to reinforce what has already been covered, then introduce new topics through discussion until the student genuinely understands the concept rather than just nodding along. Having nearly three years of experience delivering one-to-one in-person sessions, online lessons and group sessions across GCSE Maths, Further Maths, English, Science, Geography and French, as well as A-Level Maths and Further Maths, I know how to break down complex ideas in a way that actually lands. I have also worked extensively with SEN students, adapting my pace, language and materials to make sure every student regardless of their starting point can access the content and make real progress. From there I work through examples together, starting with ones where I lead fully, then moving to examples where I talk through each step and get the student to answer questions along the way. After that we do one together where they take the lead and I support where needed, then a fully independent attempt with no input from me. I finish every session with a question paper that we go through together after each question so the student gets immediate feedback and we address any gaps on the spot. As a First Class Mathematics undergraduate at Queen Mary University of London this method has consistently produced grade improvements of two grades or more across the vast majority of students I have worked with.
