For children, my starting point is pinyin—the system used to represent Chinese pronunciation—alongside listening and speaking practice. We will gradually explore sounds, tones and useful words through pictures, colourful PowerPoint slides, short videos and interactive activities. Drawing on my music background, I can also include songs and rhythm to support pronunciation practice. Lessons will build in small steps, with opportunities to review and use what we have learned.
For adults, I would introduce Chinese through topics that spark curiosity: popular Chinese internet expressions and memes, famous landmarks, cultural attractions and travel. We might explore the meaning behind a trending phrase, plan a trip to China or practise ordering food and asking for directions. Along the way, I will explain pronunciation, vocabulary and cultural context, including when informal expressions are appropriate.
Whether you are choosing lessons for your child or learning for yourself, I will adapt the pace and content to your interests and goals. Online lesson times are arranged by mutual agreement alongside my marketing work.
