As a recent First-Class graduate in Fine art, and current MFA candidate at Goldsmith’s University, I am eagerly applying for the role of drawing tutor on the FindTutors platform. Specifically, I intend to share my technical and analytical knowledge to students who find the changing conventions of the art world to be intimidating.
Having trained in pencil, charcoal and pen, Drawing is my most technically proficient skill. It is the most familiar medium to me, as I use it at all stages of my practice: idea conception, development stages and as finalised work. I have thorough practice in urban, figurative, sculptural drawing and still life.
But beyond teaching practical skills, I want to share the critical approach to art making through art historical study for introductory students, and theoretical studies for higher level students. I am effective at condensing articulate concepts into short lesson structures, as I did in my SUNY New Paltz Symposium lecture about British-Chinese arts. The importance of such knowledge is the inquisitive approach to art which determines one’s artistic journey.
Furthermore, I co-founded an artist collective in which I led group critiques to deliver actionable, constructive feedback to peers. As a collective and an individual artist, I have secured funding and competition opportunities; this experience will assist students to achieve quantifiable opportunities should they wish to test their abilities.
Having recently made successful postgraduate applications, I will mentor aspiring students in portfolio building, personal statement writing and interviews. As such, I am well suited for, but not limited to, teaching higher aiming students. I am able to take online classes and based in London for in person courses.
In my experience, the availability of artistic dialogue is central to the development of creativity and technique. For this reason, I am interested in joining FindTutor’s community of educators.
