Xiaoyang Liu

I am a native Mandarin Chinese speaker currently based in Glasgow, offering both online and in-person Chinese lessons. My teaching focuses on helping students build a solid foundation in pronunciation, characters, and grammar, while also developing a deeper understanding of how the Chinese language works in real academic and cultural contexts.

My interest in Chinese language education comes from my own intensive language training. I have a strong background in Chinese characters, vocabulary, and writing, developed through years of structured study and national-level language competitions. This experience allows me to explain complex linguistic concepts clearly and systematically, especially for learners who find characters or grammar challenging.

In my lessons, I place great emphasis on structure and personalisation. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s level, goals, and learning pace, whether they are complete beginners, or learners aiming to improve reading, writing, or academic Chinese. I combine clear explanations with guided practice, practical examples, and regular feedback to help students make steady and visible progress.

I also integrate cultural context into my teaching, helping students understand not only what expressions mean, but why they are used in certain situations. I believe this makes learning more engaging and meaningful, and helps students gain confidence in using Chinese naturally.

My teaching style is patient, supportive, and detail-oriented. I aim to create a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and developing their skills step by step. I am happy to adapt my materials and methods to suit each learner’s needs and learning style.
